Note 26 August 2013 by RE Graham on Family Search [1] !Alexander immigrated to Philadelphia from near Mannheim, Germany with his parents about 1720. The German spelling for Painter is Bender. I also have his birthplace as No. Kraichgau, Germany. !Alexander Painter removed with his family to Rockingham Co, Va in 1745 from New Hanover Twp, Montgomery Co. (then Philadelphia Co), Pa. They lived at Timberville, Rockingham Co., VA. where they attended Rader's church. His father-in-law also removed and lived as neighbors. 16 Aug 1753 Augusta County Court Orders by Chalkley shows: Vice Adam Harmon, John States and Alexander Painter were appointed overseers for a new road from Brock's Gap to the mouth of Lost River, leading to Lost Mt. !Alexander and Anna Maria moved to Timberville, Va. close to Anna Margaretha's brother, Adam Rader and Alexander's sister, Anna Barbara, lived after the baptism of their first child in Mar 1746 in PA. There are many land transactions in Augusta Co., Va. for Painters families. !16 Aug 1753 from Augusta Co. records. Alexander Painter was appointed overseer for a new road from North Mt Gap called Brock's Gap near Thomas Mish to the mouth of Lost River leading to North Mt. !15 May 1764 from Augusta County Court Orders by Chalkley shows: Alexander Painter qualified as administrator of Catherine Painter. !20 May 1765. Augusta Co., VA Deed Bk 19 p 227. Adam Reider and Alexander Painter of Augusta Co., VA. to Peter Scholl and Michael Niece a small amount of land for building a Church House or People Place for people to worship God in. Signed: Adam Rader, Alexander Painter, Anna Raidr and Margaret Painter. !16 Oct 1765 from Augusta County Court Orders by Chalkley: Jacob Harper, Alex Painter, John Seller, Augustine Price, Jacob Parsenger, Henry Lung and Michael Neese. -- Naturalized (the order states they were qualified as justices). !From Chalkley Vol III, p 213. 14 May 1771: Alexander and Margaret to Christly Painter, for 100 pounds, parts of several tracts patented to Alexander on the waters of North River Shenandoah, Thomas Moore's survey, crossing Fort Run, corner land purchased by Alexander from Adam Rader, containing 279 acres. !0030316 Will Bk 3 p 337 Augusta Co., VA. 15 May 1764 Alexander Painter and Henry Long were administrators of the estate of Catherine Painter. !0030349 Deed Bk 17 p 2/3/4/5/6. Augusta Co., VA. shows: 13 May 1771 Alexander and Margot Painter of Augusta Co., VA. to Chrisley Painter 279 acres for 100 pounds on the North River of the Shenandoah River. !0030349: Deed Bk 17 Augusta Co., VA. pp 218/9/20/1. Alexander and Margaret Painter of Augusta Co. to John Painter, for 100 pounds, parts of several tracts totalling 341 acres Mathias Reader's land, line of Cristly Painter. !The Rader Churchyard Cemetery in Plains Twp., Rockingham Co., Va. has the following marker: May 20th 1765. Adam Reider and Alexander Painter for the glory of God and the spreading of his precious gospel have given a small quantity of land (3 acres) for the building of a church house to worship God. !The death of Alexander is taken from the date he deeded land to his son, Christian Painter 14 May 1771.
