Biography

Fred was born in Walsall Staffordshire in 1880, to William Palmer and Rose Stokes.

He married Mary Ann Doyle 08 Apr 1903 at St. Mary the Mount, Walsall, They had nine children: (Mary) Violet Palmer Ellen Palmer Rose (Lizzie)Palmer Leonard Palmer Francis George Palmer Bridget Palmer John Palmer and Doris Palmer.

In 1911, they were living at 64 Sandwell Street Walsall, Staffordshire, England. with Fred and her four oldest Children, Mary Violet Palmer Ellen Palmer Rose (Lizzie) Palmer and Leonard Palmer

On the 23 Dec 1915, Francis George Palmer, (known as Georgie) fell into the fire whilst the family at home were putting up Christmas decorations. Georgie died the following day from shock. Fred was in the Trenches of the Somme at the time, so he had to wait to get permission to go home. He was unable to get home for Georgie's Funeral, and Jun1916 is the first recorded Leave after the date of his son's death. During that time Mary Ann had what used to be called a 'Nervous Breakdown' following her son's death, and was hospitalised. Their children being looked after by relatives and Nuns, and he was stuck in France. Fred died from Sarcoma caused by a war wound (or two), in 1923 at the age of 44.
