Biography

David Palmer, born 30 Aug 1739 at Stonington, Connecticut, was the first child of Joseph Palmer and Zipporah Billings.

David Palmer was a private in the Revolutionary War.

He married 24 Apr 1760 at Stonington, Connecticut, Grace Plumb. Per Wheeler's History of Stonington, "They had eleven children and [their] descendants are a large proportion of the inhabitants of the State of Vermont." Their children included (their first born in Stonington, nos. 2 through 9 at Voluntown):

  1. George Palmer, b. 1760
  2. Zipporah Palmer b. 17 May 1762
  3. James Palmer, b. 6 Nov 1764
  4. Grace Palmer, b. 31 Mar 1766
  5. Joseph Palmer, b. 7 Dc 1767 (twin)
  6. Elizabeth Palmer, b. 7 Dec 1767 (twin)
  7. Sally Palmer, b. 1 Feb 1770
  8. Eunice Palmer, b. 25 Aug 1772
  9. Nancy Palmer, b. 20 Apr 1777
  10. Allen Palmer, b. 1781

In about the year 1778 this family moved to Clarendon, Rutland County, Vermont.

After the death of Grace (Plumb) Palmer in 1811, David Palmer may have married 2nd Rachel Coffin of Nantucket.

David Palmer passed away in January 1821.
