Biography

Anthony Frederick Mark Palmer was born on 29th August 1914 in England. He son of Frederick Charles Palmer and Mabel Frances Hughes-Hallett. He was educated at Marlborough College, Marlborough, Wiltshire and at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire. Upon graduation, he was commissioned into the British Army as Second Lieutenant in the Yorkshire Dragoons Yeomanry. He was later promoted to Lieutenant in the Northumberland Fusiliers.

Anthony succeeded as the 4th Baronet Palmer, of Grinkle Park, co. York and of Newcastle-under-Tyne [UK, 1886] on 29th March 1931.

Sir Anthony married Lady Henriette Cadogan, daughter of Commander Francis Charles Cadogan and Ruth Evelyn Howard, on 4th September 1939 at Portsmouth, Hampshire.[1] They had two children:

  • Antonia Mary Palmer (1940-) married Lord Christopher Thynne
  • Sir Charles Mark Palmer, 5th Bt (1941-) was born six months after his father's death, inheriting the baronetcy upon his birth

Sir Anthony served in the British Army during the Second World War; as a Major in the Royal Artillery (Special Operations Executive). He was killed in action on 18th May 1941 in Syria.
