Biography

Samuel Palmer was born on November 22, 1659, at Rehoboth Plantation, [1] which at that time was adjunct to the Plymouth Colony, not the Massachusetts Bay Colony. His father, Jonah Palmer was 38 and his mother, Elizabeth Griswold a.k.a. Grissell, was 22. Samuel was their second child.

His birth family were among the few English immigrants to North America who cleared and settled the wilderness areas of southeastern Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and eastern Connecticut. As such, they were pioneers who chose not to become part of the more comfortable, urbane life of the emerging Boston metropolis.

Samuel Palmer married Elizabeth Kingsley (also spelled Kingsbury) on January 13, 1680, in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. [2] They had 12 children as profiled herein. This family relocated away from Rehoboth to Windham, Connecticut. Elizabeth died at Windham, 16 May 1717.

Samuel Palmer thereafter married Ann Durkee (also spelled Durgy) on December 6, 1727, in Windham, Connecticut. She died 17 Feb 1761, age 80 years.

Samuel Palmer died on November 18, 1743, in Windham, Connecticut, having lived a long life of 83 years.

Note: The Find A Grave: Memorial #84805380 page for Samuel Palmer, who was the son of this Samuel Palmer, evidently is conflated with the death date and location of this Samuel Palmer.
