Hello Alison

It's time for our annual Australia Project membership checkin. Thank you so much for your involvement in the Project in the last year and for all your help improving Australian profiles on WikiTree. Australia Project members play such a vital role in Australian genealogy on WikiTree.

Please could you reply to this profile comment (don't add a new comment!), or send me a private message to let us know if you'd like to stay on in the Project, and to let us know what you plan to work on for the next year, and if you would like to change any of the teams you are on. Our teams are listed on Australia Project Teams.

We know that people move on to new things, so if you no longer want to be in the Australia Project, please let us know so that we can remove you from the membership list.

Many Australia Project members are active on Discord. It's a great way to communicate with other members of your project team/s, or to ask any general questions. If you're not on Discord yet, here's some information - Help:Discord. If you are already on the WikiTree Discord server, let us know, and we can send you an invite link to the dedicated Australia Project server (WikiAustralia) where all our chat channels are located. We also communicate through the Australia Project google group, and on the G2G.

We're always happy to receive any ideas or suggestions that you have to make our project even better.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi, Alison.

I received a notification of your proposed merge of Unity West Gooch and Unity Claiborne Gooch. I don't have enough info to vote definitively (and am not fully versed in all aspects of WikiTree functionality), but thought I would share that I have her listed in my own personal database as Unity "Lucy" Claiborne as well. My info came from a document called "Descendants of Lt. Col. Henry Gooch" by Stephen Lee Krou. I have no record of her being a West. Hope this helps! Sincerely, John C. Carter [email address removed]

It certainly seems like the ‘West’ thing is one of those errors that has been picked up somewhere and repeated in so many trees people presume it’s true.

Her LNAB may not even be Claiborne but it seems unlikely to be West based on the Marhar notes. Either way, they clearly represent the same person.

I appreciate your commenting, John. :)

Hi, I am totally new to this. I am helping my 95 year old Mum (a Wreford) sort out her family photos. She knows her family originally came from Crediton but she was born in New Southgate London. I've watched the 'how wikitree works' videos but have no idea where to start. Can anyone help please?

Hi Evelyn!

Thanks for the note on Alison's page!

We were all novices at some point. Take a look at Getting Started With Genealogy for some great tips on recording your family history.

Hi Evelyn,

I’d be happy to help. Have you tried searching for your mum’s parents/grandparents names yet to see if there are profiles for them already? Alison

Thanks Alison, yes I've tried this but can't find anything related to them. Rumour has it that she has a family tree in her attic! I will try to locate it and will add their details if they aren't already on the site. :)

If she's a Wreford (especially from Crediton) it's extremely likely her family appear on the Wreford Pedigree. I've been working on creating and/or connecting profiles for people found in this pedigree so would be very keen to know where your mother's family fit in! Creating a profile for your mother and/or her parents would be a good start.
