Biography

Jean Louis was born February 6th 1786. He was the son of François Ignace Paquet and his wife Françoise Boivin. He was baptized the next day in Ste-Rose on Île Jésus, godparents Jean Louis Cyr and Amable Boivin.^[1]

On February 9th 1807, in St-Martin de Laval, Louis Paquet adult (parents omitted) married Marie Tâcé adult daughter of Joseph Tâcé and Josephte Forgue. Witnesses: Groom- his brothers Joseph Paquet and Pierre Paquet; Bride- her father and her uncle Charles Tassé, no signatures.^{[2] [3]}

Louis Paquet died 10 Sep 1820 at 36 years of age. He was buried 2 days later in St-Eustache. ^[4]

Note:

• Jean Louis Paquet and Louis Marie Paquet son of Pierre Paquet and Charlotte Gravel. Louis Marie Paquet has no further records in Québec Parish Registers prior to 1850 and is not known to have had any children prior to 1850. ^[5]

Jean Louis is never cited present at any of his siblings' marriages. There is simply no identifiable trace found of him.

Have received an answer from them (PRDH), they agree with my conclusions and the correction will appear in their next database update (they do such every 3 months or so, not sure when the next one is due). The one who married was Louis Marie Paquet and not Jean Louis.

Research Notes

• From the research, as described below, it appears that either of two men, both named Louis Paquet, could be the husband of Marie Tassé. I believe PRDH is in error and the correct husband of Marie Tassé is Louis Marie Paquet, son of Pierre Paquet and Charlotte Gravel not Jean Louis Paquet son of François Paquet and Marie Françoise Boivin.

• Baptismal Record

• The baptismal record for Louis Marie Paquet is transcribed here and can be viewed at familysearch.org, ancestry.com and genealogiequebec.com. In the record his father is named Louis Paquet in error, his father is Pierre Paquet. There was no Louis Paquet-Charlotte Gravel marriage in Québec Parish Records and no other couple in that time and place is likely to have been the correct parents. PRDH links the baptismal record translated below to Louis Paquet son of Pierre Paquet and Charlotte Gravel. ^[7]

• Louis Marie was born 17 Jan 1779 and was baptized the same day in St-Vincent-de-Paul-de-l'Île-Jésus, Laval. He was the son of Louis Paquet (sic) and Charlotte Gravel. His godparents were Louis Marie Paquet and Therese Gravel, no signatures. ^{[8] [9] [10]}

• Per PRDH there are no further records for Louis Marie Paquet in Québec Parish Records prior to 1850. He is not known to have married or had any children baptized and there is no sépulture for him in Québec Parish Registers prior to 1850. ^[7]

• A marriage record, in St-Martin de Laval, for a Louis Paquet and Marie Tassé omitted the names of the groom's parents. Several online trees link Louis Marie Paquet, born 6 Mar 1786, son of Pierre Paquet and Charlotte Gravel, to this marriage but PRDH links the marriage to Jean Louis Paquet son of François Paquet and Marie Françoise Boivin. The marriage record is transcribed here:

• On February 9th 1807, in St-Martin de Laval, Louis Paquet adult bachelor (his parent's names were omitted in the record) married Marie Tâcé adult daughter of Joseph Tâcé and Josephte Forgue. Witnesses: Groom- his brothers Joseph Paquet and Pierre Paquet; Bride- her father and her uncle Charles Tassé, no signatures. ^{[11] [12]}

• There were multiple weddings that day. The entry above Louis Paquet and Marie Tassé is for Jean Martin Paquet and Marie Andegrave. The parents of the groom are also omitted and witnesses are again Joseph and Pierre Paquet brothers of the groom. ^{[11] [13]} Both Louis Paquet's have brothers named Joseph and Pierre who could have been witness at the marriage. However there was only one Jean Martin Paquet. This is circumstantial evidence to support Louis Marie Paquet as the husband of Marie Tassé.

• The husband of Marie Tassé died at age 36 on 10 Sep 1820 which is close to the age of 34, for Jean Louis Paquet son of François Paquet and Marie Françoise Boivin. Age at death was notoriously inaccurate in these records, Louis Marie Paquet, son of Pierre Paquet and Charlotte Gravel would have been 41 in 1820. neither age is exactly as reported in the record:

• Louis Paquet died 10 Sep 1820 at 36 years of age. He was buried 2 days later in St-Eustache. ^[14]

• The first child of Louis Paquet and Marie Tassé, Louis Paquet, was born 29 Aug 1807 and baptized the same day in St-Martin de Laval. His godmother was Charlotte Gravel but her relationship to the child is not recorded. This could be Charlotte Gravel and would support Louis Marie Paquet, instead of Jean Louis Paquet, as the husband of Marie Tassé since it was customary for the first child's godparents to be their grandparents if they were living. ^[15]

• PRDH links Jean Louis Paquet, born 6 Mar 1786, son of François Paquet and Marie Françoise Boivin, to the marriage of Louis Paquet and Marie Tassé on 9 Feb 1807 in St-Martin de Laval and the burial of Louis Paquet 10 Sep 1820 at age 36 in St-Eustache. ^{[16] [17]}
