Daniel went to sea in his early life, mostly in the West India trade. In 1808, he came to Leeds with his brother-in-law Robert Gould and bought the 400-acre Stone lot upon which he settled.
A Free Will Baptist, was a Whig until the formation of the Republican party. He married twice, first to Sally Andrews and second Clara Berry.
Daniel enlisted July 3, 1775 as a Private in Captain John Rice's Company in the 31st. Regiment of Foot commanded by Col. Edmund Phinney, All the company came from Scarborough. (Mass. Archives, Vol. 56, Part 2, Page 207)
