  • In A Pear Tree

"The name of the family which is the subject of this history, Parham, is English in origin, and means a piece of land, enclosure, homestead, or village where pear trees grow in abundance.2 The first recorded mention of it used as a surname was in Sussex County, England, in 959 as Perham.3 The Domesday Book in 1096 listed Perreham in Suffolk, the Curia Regis Rolls of 1206 spells it Pereham, and the Valuation of Norwich in 1254 gives Perham.4. Today most persons of this name spell it Parham, although there are still some Perharns in the United States, especially in the northern states."[1]
