Madie was born in 1916. She was the daughter of Robert Park and Mary Collins. She passed away in 1999.

• Madie Garner was the daughter of Robert M. and Madie Collins Park who were the former owners of The Panola Watchman newspaper. She was a native of Carthage, graduated from Pascal High School in Ft. Worth, and attended Texas Christian University.

She received the first Business and Professional Women's Scholarship to further education , and graduated from Texas Women's University in 1939 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She taught school in several Texas districts before moving to Hallsville with her husband, Bob, in 1961. They were married for 53 years. She taught at Marshall Junior High and Hallsville Middle School. Madie Garner was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Texas Assoc of Teachers, and was named an outstanding educator in 1973. She was also honored as the outstanding citizen for 1986 at the 21st annual Hallsville Chamber of Commerce Banquet. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; brothers, Marcus C. Park, George Buck Park. and Robert M. park; and sister, Hazel Park.
