Alexander Parker was born to Robert Parker and his wife, Ann, and baptised in South Pool, Devon, England on 21 November 1742.  Following naming patterns, Alexander named his first boy after his own father: Robert.
Alexander married the sister of the local cooper, Joan Elliott on 17 January 1773 in South Pool, Devon.  They were both eighteen. They had a family of nine children: Robert, Alexander, John, Ann, Betsy, William, Edward (who died aged 8 months), Edward, and Elizabeth.
