Alton was born Jan 10 1904 in Thaxton, Pontotoc Co., Mississippi. He was the son of William James Parker and Martha Elizabeth (Childress) Parker. He married LaVerne M. (Burgeson) Parker 28 Jan 1928 in Brown, Texas. He passed away Feb 3 1989 in Payne Co., Oklahoma, and was interred in the Fairlawn Cemetery (Blk 12 - west half), Cushing, Payne Co., Oklahoma.

Research Notes

Paralee was listed in Ellis Jones & William Parker descendents files by James W. "Bill" Stewart. She was listed as the child of William & Mary Elizabeth Whitworth. But it gives no other information and I have not found her in any documents regarding this family. Either Bill was wrong or she died too young to be included in any Censuses.

There is some controversy over the parantage of the last five children of Mary. 1) Mary did not die until 1895. 2) The 1900 Census says that Martha married James about 1888 and had five children by 1900. Mary Ann was born May 1888. 3) No Divorce records have been found. 4) The last 5 were born between 1888 and 1895. (William was born in April 1900, with a five year lapse between him and Halcomb) 5) None of these 4 are in the 1910 Census for this family. (the youngest would have been 15) Conclusion: as it appears that the 1888 marriage listed in the 1900 census was incorrect and was actually 1898. That there was no divorce and Mary actually died during, or shortly after, the birth of Halcomb.
