Biography

Emigrated to New England on the Mary and John 26 March 1634, landing in May. With his cousin James Noyes and his nephew John Woodbridge, he founded the town of Newbury, Massachusetts and served as the town's pastor. He died unmarried, 24 April 1677.

Samuel Sewall's Diary 1675 mentions Thomas Parker of Newbury several times. Rev Thomas Parker was Samuel Sewall's teacher. He baptized Sewall's sister Anne (1662) and Mehitable (1665). [1]

" My Father presently sent me to school to the Reverend and Excellent Mr Thomas Parker, with whom I continued till my entrance into the College "

"Rev. Thomas Parker, pastor of the church at Newbury. Having lost his siglit, he devoted himself to teaching Latin, Greek, and Hebrew. Sewall had been under his tuition. — Eds."

"April 4, Sab. day. I holp preach for" my Master, [Mr. Parker] in the afternoon. "

April 28, 1677. " Mr. Moody was here, he told me that Mr. Parker dyed last Tuesday, and was buried on Thorsday. Mr. Hubbard preached his funeral Sermon. The Lord give me grace to follow my dear Master as he followed Christ, that I may at last get to heaven whether he has already gone. "
