Biography

Abigail Parker was born in 1774, the daughter of Abraham Parker and Susanna Burbank.[1] She grew up in a large family - besides her four full sisters, her parents had raised 11 other children in their prior marriages.

In 1802, Abigail married Day Mitchell, the widower of her half-sister Susannah Greenough.[2] This was now the fourth marriage of her sisters and half-sisters with Mitchell brothers, Nathaniel, Day and Joseph.

In addition to the surviving child from Day's first marriage, Day and Abigail had the following children:

  1. Abraham, b. 21 May 1803; m. Catherine Johnson Adams, 17 Nov. 1836; d. 19 Oct. 1863
  2. William, b. 18 Mar. 1805; m. Nancy Hull, 21 Mar. 1833; d. 5 July 1837
  3. Charles M., b. 20 Jan. 1807; m. Nancy Hull, 25 Apr. 1839; d. 28 Mar. 1885
  4. Susan, b. Feb. 1810; d. 17 Mar. 1810, and
  5. George, b. 9 Dec. 1817; m. Susan Maria Page, 2 Jan. 1853; d. 21 May 1911.

Abigail joined the East Bradford Congregational Church by profession on Nov. 1806, where her husband had been a member since 1790.[3] Her husband was recorded on the 1810, 1820, 1830 and 1840 censuses for Bradford, MA.

Abigail lost her husband in 1848. She continued to live in the East Bradford (then Groveland) homestead, where she was recorded on the 1850 census with her stepson Day Mitchell, her son George (who would marry 3 years later), and her granddaughter Abigail (daughter of her deceased son William).[4]

Abigail passed away in Bradford in 1856, at the age of 81.[5] She was buried along with her husband in the Second Congregational Church Burying Ground, Bradford, MA (now part of Riverview Cemetery, Groveland, MA).[6]
