Kathryn Parker Wylie, age 87, of Florence, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2012, after an extended illness. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 25, at Spry-Williams Funeral Home, Florence.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, June 26, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Brother Sonny Owens and Brother James Farris officiating.
Interment will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Kathryn was born December 15, 1924, to John Henry and Hattie Thompson Parker.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Lauderdale County, although spending some childhood years in Madison County.
She was a loving wife, mother, and "nanny." Kathryn was a homemaker and avid gardener for all of her active life. Above all Kathryn was a highly devoted Christian to her Lord and Savior. She was a member of Petersville Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Wylie, brothers, Leon Goolsby (Dessie), Gaither "Billy" Parker (Portia), Oliver Parker (Madge), Horace Parker and two infant brothers; sister, Virginia Parker English (Martin).
Survivors include sons, Gary Wylie and wife, Charlotte, of Huntsville, Les Wylie, of Florence, Jeff Wylie and wife, Jamie, of Florence; daughters, Glenda A. Lester and husband, Dendy, of Florence, Susie Strait and husband, Wade, of Florence; grandchildren, Leslie Ann Malone (Scott), Eric Alverson (Elif), Angela Workman (Daniel), Brooke Austin (Derrick), Brittney Clanton (Andy), Bradley Strait (April), Tyler Strait (Jessica), Janelle Wylie, Ben Wylie and Ingrid McCluer; great-grandchildren, Sarana and Evan Lawson, Emalee and Noah Workman and Serkan Alverson; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Wylie, David Wylie and Louis Wylie; sisters-in-law, Helen Parker, Elizabeth Cantrell, Helen Butler (Bob) and Mabel Wylie; several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Columbia Cottage, Amedisys Hospice, and the wonderful staff of El Reposo Nursing Home for their loving care of our mother.
