Hi Brenda,

Robert Paterson could possibly be my great great grandfather who was a police detective. My family know very little about the Patersons apart from my grandmother. Do you think there is a possibility?

Hi Almary, It would be great to find more info on Robert Paterson. So far I have....

B: abt 1849/50 in Minnigaff, Kirkcudbright, Scotland M: 27 Nov 1868 in Ballantrae, Ayrshire, Scotland to Jeanie 'Jane' Laurie (b. 25 Apr 1845). It would be great to get this all confirmed too.

Hi Brenda,

Robert was the elder brother of my great grandfather John Paterson. Since according to John's marriage certificate his father was a police detective I thought perhaps there could be a connection here. I hope perhaps cousins but perhaps not. It seems there are a number of Patersons who were police. I have become just as interested in what people did as how they fit into the puzzle.

I will continue to research this line and who knows what will be the findings. Thank you very much for replying to me.

Almary.

Welcome back, Brenda. I hope you discover as much about your family as I have about mine over the years.

You joined long before we started sharing the How-to pages with members. It has some quick tips on working with both the Wiki pages and our other members.

Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

Hi Brenda,

Thank you for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Participation in a Pre-1700 Project is strongly encouraged for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Collaboration is essential because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants.

It looks like the United Kingdom Project would be a good fit with the tag you entered. Adding the tag United_Kingdom will help you get updates about activity for that project.

Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)

We've made a change in how the tutorials are sent to new members. Instead of weekly messages you can now work at your own pace, so this is the last message.

How is it going so far? Have the How-Tos been helpful or left you with questions?

We want to help! Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

PS Sometimes links don't work in emails. You can always find a link that works in the public comments on your profile.

You may have been hard at work getting connected to family members who are already here and adding those who were missing. You probably have at least a few profiles that you manage now.

There's a fast and easy way to access those profiles using the Watchlist. So, this week we're going to look at How to Manage Your Watchlist.

Please let one of us know if you have questions! Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

Thanks, WikiMessenger Cindy

Brenda

You've been here for several weeks now! We hope your profiles are coming together and you've enjoyed getting to know us a little better.

You're getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now and collaboration isn't always easy. So, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer.

Questions?? Just ask! Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

Thanks, Cindy

It's time for your next stop on the guided tour!

This week, we'd like to show you How to Join in the Community. There's no shortage of opportunities to get involved through social media, our forum, and projects.

Be sure to check out the One Name Studies Project to see if anyone has started a project for one of the surnames in your family. Don't see one? Follow the instructions for starting your own!

Please let me know if you have questions. :-) If the above link does not work from your email, please go to your profile in the public comments and it will work from there.

Thanks, WikiMessenger Cindy

Hi Brenda --

What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research you’d like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree? This is what makes WikiTree different than most other genealogy sites: Our goal is to have one profile per person.

Once you confirm your email address, you’ll have an opportunity to fill in your tags to tell us about your genealogical interests.

The Tags are a way for you to connect with other genealogists on WikiTree and follow activity in the topics that interest you. You can learn more on our Tags help page.

Once you click "Save Tag(s) and Volunteer," one of our Greeters will come along to confirm your membership, and you’ll be on your way!

Welcome to the family! We’re really glad you’re here.
