Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Amos Parker was a North Carolina colonist.

Amos Parker is first found in Chowan Precinct of Albemarle County, as the recipient of a parcel of land, in a miss-indexed Deed of Gift from a James Parker in 1715 (It is possible this date could have been miss-transcribed). At this point in time, it is not known of the possible relationship between these men. He was a private under Captain James Farlee, his future father-in-law, as were 188 other colonial men. He was a witness to Captain James Farlee's 1750 will. He is next found in the early 1753 Chowan County, North Carolina census record. On the 1764 Tax list, he is found next. He is next found as one of two taxpayers, with his son, Saul, on the 1765 Perquimans County, North Carolina taxt list. On the 1772 Perquimans County, North Carolina Tax List, he is found as one of four taxpayers along with his sons, Samuel and Henderson, and apprentice, Enock, (said to be a younger brother by another researcher.) He became a Quaker in 1775, after he had moved to Northampton County, North Carolina, from Perquimans County, North Carolina. Monthly Meetings were held in his home near the Rich Square Community of Jack Swamp. He made his Quaker will on the 24th day of First Month, (Jan) 1799. He passed away before the March Court, 1800, in Northampton County, North Carolina.
