DEATH OF MR. T. L. PARKER.
Mr. Thomas Laidman Parker, manager and secretary of the Carlton and United Breweries Ltd., died, after a brief illness at a private hospital early on Saturday morning. Mr. Parker was born in 1847 at Haughton le Spring, Durham, England, where his father was a flax-spinner, and was brought up by his grandfather, Mr. Charles Parker, who for ten years was Lord provost of Dundee. After attending the Dundee High School he studied law at the Edinburgh University, and was admitted to the Bar, but did not practise, and later became an accountant with the firm of John Leng, of Dundee. Having received an appointment as special correspondent to the "Dundee Advocate," he left Dundee for Australia, and was later editor of the "Literary Digest," and author of a book entitled "Labour and Capital." He accepted a position as manager of the Carlton Brewery, and on the amalgamation of this company with other brewery companies he was appointed manager and secretary of the Carlton and United Breweries Limited. Mr. Parker was an outstanding personality in the brewing industry, with which he was connected for nearly 50 years, and his loss will be regretted by a large number of clients, old employees, and friends. He was an enthusiastic yachtsman, and was one of the oldest members of the Royal yacht Club, under whose colours he sailed his yacht Waratah. Mr. Parker was a widower, his wife having died two years ago, and leaves a family of four sons and three daughters. The funeral will leave his residence, 21 The Strand, Williamstown, at 15 minutes past 3 to-day for the Williamstown Cemetery. [2]
He was buried in Williamstown Cemetery on 21 May 1923, grave WI-CE*M*34**1A, with his wife Isabella, who had died 2 years earlier.
