Biography

Prior to his birth, his parents were living in Lamplugh, Cumberland where his sister Ann was born after which they moved to Loweswater where three more siblings were born followed by Jonathan in 1835 and three more in succeeding years. At some point during the 1850s, he moved to County Durham and in 1860, he married Margaret Gill in Auckland, Durham and their first child Jane was born soon thereafter, in Witton Park. During the next 15 years, they had 11 more children.

In about 1897, he moved back to Cumberland County, to Whitehaven, presumably to work in one of the coal mines in the town having worked as a coal miner whilst living in several different towns, all with coal mines, in County Durham. He died of drowning in Overend Quarry 23 May 1911 in Whitehaven, about 7 years after his wife Margaret having moved in with his daughter Ada and son-in-law Jacob Kennedy.
