Biography
James was born in England and arrived with his parents James and Charlotte Parker in New Zealand on board the Zealandia when he was about 4 years old. He had a brother named John.
James Parker was described in his will as a "Gentleman", and was known to have had a love for animals. He owned a drapery business.
He died at the age of 83, having never married, and was buried in Barbadoes Street Cemetery.

In his will James named George Thorngate Weston (solicitor) as his trustee and executor. James made several charitable bequests. His primary beneficiaries were his two sisters: Charlotte Elizabeth Blank and Julia Frances Shaw, and nephews Alexander Wardrope Shaw and Harry Hudson Shaw. Additional beneficiaries were: his nephew Raymond Albert Blank, Arnold Irvine Bloxhom (husband of his niece Dorrie Eileen Bloxham), niece Violet Georgina Shaw, niece Myrtle Jardine Spence, niece Dorrie Eileen Bloxham, niece Daisy Julia Hansard, niece Pansy Kate Acheson (wife of Robert Albert Acheson of USA), niece Eveyln Charlotte Browning, Louisa Blank (wife of nephew Raymond Albert Blank). Also his nephew Valentine Parker, living in Sydney, who was the son of James' brother John Parker, and James Parker, another son of his brother John Parker. There were 2 codicils to his will, and proportions and conditions were amended for the bequests.
James' estate was valued at under 33,000 pounds, a quite considerable sum in 1935. His solicitor George Thorngate Weston provided the affidavit confirming his death as he knew James and had attended the funeral.
His obituary states he was was a nephew of General Augustus Jardine, of Boston, Massachusetts, and a cousin of General Sir Julius Raines, K.C.B., Colonel of the Buff's.
