Thomas Anthony Parkes married Annie Moore in 1855 in NSW. [1]
Thomas Anthony Parkes was born in Trevethin, Pontypool Wales on 16 Aug 1828. His parents were Thomas Parks of Warwickshire and Ann Hale, daughter of Anthony Hale and Mary Morgan. His father Thomas died the year he was born.
Thomas Anthony (named Thomas after his father and Parks grandfather and Anthony after his Hale grandfather) was raised from the age of 3 by his uncle James Hale and his Aunt Mary Bowen nee Hale . This situation was because his mother Ann remarried circa 1830 and the child was not welcomed by her new husband, James Dauberry . Thomas Anthony's mother Ann died before 7 Jul 1835 when her husband James Dauberry remarried in Bristol.
On the death of his Aunt Mary and when a letter reached the Hales from Thomas Anthony's family in Birmingham in 1836, a letter was sent by his great aunt Mrs Ann Saunders to his Aunt Sarah Parks in Birmingham requesting she take on the rearing of her brothers child ( at that time called Anthony) as only his uncle James remained to look after him when his Aunt Mary 'followed her sister to the tomb' and 'his Uncle James' circumstances were unsettled.'
The elderly Ann Saunders subsequently escorted the child to Birmingham were he lived with his two aunts, Sarah and Marie who were stay makers and his grandfather Thomas Parkes. Here he would frequently have encountered his Uncle Henry who had such an influence on the pathways of his life. In the 1841 census he is still referred to as Anthony.
He was apprenticed to J.B. Kenworthy, master carver and guilder from 03.02.1845 until 16.08.1849.
His uncle Henry Parkes, (later Sir Henry Parkes) sponsored him to emigrate in 1853 to NSW, were he managed Henry's Emporium in Hunter St Sydney. He also found employment as a teacher and a station master and a clerk in the public service, when the business closed.
He married Anne Moore the daughter of Isaac Moore, carriage manufacturer of Sydney and his wife Catherine Woodhouse. The marriage was by license at Christchurch St Lawrence, Sydney on19.02.1855.
Thomas and Anne had the following eleven children, Sarah Catherine known as Kate in 1855, Thomas Isaac Woodhouse in 1857, Henrietta Emily in 1860, Charles in 1862, Henry in 1864, Annie Marie in 1866 who died in 1867, George Arthur in 1868, Edward John in 1871,Alfred Herbert in1874, Percy Faulconbridge in 1877 and Annie Marie in 1879.
Thomas Anthony Parkes died on the 17th of September 1907 in Ashfield Sydney, NSW Australia.
