Sarah Ann Parkin was christened on 4 Feb 1838 at St Elphin's Church in Warrington, Lancashire. She was the daughter of Joseph and Sarah Parkin. Her father's occupation was recorded as glass bottle maker, and the family's address as Horsemarket.
By June 6th 1841, the family were living in Thatto Heath, Eccleston, Lancashire. Joseph was a glass bottle manufacturer. The family had one servant, eleven-year-old Mary Atherton.
Sarah's father died in 1845 in Prescot district, aged 42. He was buried on 22 Mar 1845 at St Elphin's Church in Warrington, Lancashire. His address was recorded as "Thattoe Heath near St Helens".
Sarah's mother married Robert Middleton in 1849 in Pontefract district.
By March 30th 1851, the family were living in Castleford, Yorkshire; Robert was a railway labourer.
