George was born 10 March 1820 in the Cherokee Nation, now Bradley County, TN. He was the son of Samuel Parks, a white man, and Susannah Taylor, a Cherokee. He married Louisa Spriggs, a white woman, 18 Aug 1844 at Walker’s Valley, Bradley County, TN. [1] They were the parents of seven children, Susan, Louvenia Cherokee, Samuel, Dondeneah (Lucy), George, Ruth, and Morgan. [2][3] Although several of his siblings had already emigrated, George and his family remained in Tennessee after Removal and the family is listed on the Siler and Chapman rolls of Cherokee east of the Mississippi. [4] He was a merchant in Cleveland, TN. [5] The family moved to Indian Territory after the Civil War, settling in Vinita. [6] George died in Vinita 1 October 1883 and is buried in the Parks Cemetery, Vinita, OK. [7]
