Roy Parks

TUPPER LAKE - Roy Edgar Parks, 82, of Tupper Lake and Greenwood, Ark., died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999 at his home in Greenwood.

Born on March 5, 1917 in St. Regis Falls, he was the son of Edward C. and Emma T. (Phillips) Parks. He attended school in St. Regis Falls.

He married Margaret M. Bump in St. Mary's Church in Potsdam. They recently celebrated 51 years of marriage. They moved to Tupper Lake after their marriage and began spending their winters in Greenwood AR in 1982.

In April of 1939, he enlisted in the United States Army and was sent oversees in August of 1942. He participated in six major battles in Africa and landed with invasion forces in Italy and was fighting there when he was wounded. Mr. Parks was the first casualty of more than 200 men from St. Regis Falls. He was honorably discharged following recuperation at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Parks held various jobs throughout his life. The most important thing was raising his family. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the VFW and the American Legion Disabled American Veterans organization.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, David and his wife Greenwood, Ark., Douglas and his wife Paula of Potsdam, and Dale and his wife Donna of Tupper Lake; a brother, Lloyd of Buffalo; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild*.

He was predeceased by an* infant son, Dennis; two brothers, Kenneth and Carlton; and a sister, Evelyn Pailermo.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Richer Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Alphonsus Church. Burial, with full military honors, will be held in the parish cemetary in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to the High Peaks or St. Lawrence Valley Hospice.[1]
