Biography

Bathsheba ___ was born in 1766 or 1767. She had a daughter, Patty, by a father (Parmenter?) unknown to us. In 1792 she married Levi Parmenter in Hubbardston, Worcester County, Massachusetts. They lived in Hubbardston. They had sons in 1793 and 1795. She died in Hubbardston in 1830.

Notes

Bathsheba had a daughter, Patty Parmenter, who was not the daughter of Levi. Patty died in Hubbardston, unmarried, in 1838. Bathsheba seems therefore to have been married before her marriage (at age ~24) to Levi. Therefore her maiden name is probably not Parmenter. So far searches for an appropriate Bathsheba or Patty in records of Holden, Princeton, and Worcester and index-searches for Patty-daughter-of-Bathsheba or for Bathsheba-wife-of-Parmenter have turned up nothing. Indices have three Bathshebas born in Essex or Worcester counties October 1766-October 1767: Delvee (in Oxford), Read (Rutland), and Bennitt (Lancaster); they married spouses named Pratt, Foster, and Wheelock.

A primary source for Bathsheba's birth has not been found. Secondary accounts conflict. She was 63 when she died in October 1830, so was born from October 1766 to October 1767. She has been confused with Bathsheba Parmenter-790, Levi's sister, born in 1759, who married Ephraim Parkhurst. There was also Bathsheba Parmenter born in 1762 in Sudbury, daughter of William and Mary, who married Elijah Dedman/Dadman in 1781. Bathsheba Parmenter born in 1756 is recorded at familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LL7D-6PM with no details or sources. Bathsheba baptized in 1751 in Rutland, daughter of Joseph and Mary (Gibbs) Parmenter is Bathsheba Parmenter-274 born in 1737 in Rutland to Levi's uncle Joseph Parmenter-794; she married Jonas Rice.

A Bathsheba Parmenter born in Princeton is in a Pedigree Resource File at familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LC27-XTL but no details or sources are given other than her marriage to Levi. Princeton Vital Records have no record of her other than their 1791 intent to marry.

The above text formerly said "In 1792, then of Holden, Massachusetts, she married Levi Parmenter in Hubbardston." But "then of Holden" is in none of the three marriage records cited and I don't find it elsewhere, so I have removed it from the text, though it may well be true. --R.S.P. 12/2021
