Biography

Edward Joseph Parnell was born on 24 May 1869 in Dublin, Ireland.[1]

Edward married Mary Haverty on the 24th February 1898. Mary's father, Thomas Haverty was a policeman and was listed as deceased on her wedding certificate. [2]

The 1901 Ireland census finds 31 year old Edward and 29 year old wife Mary living in Dublin.[3] Edward was a commercial traveller in the beer trade, and they lived on North Portland St. They belonged to the Church of Ireland, and no children are shown in the home at that time.

The 1911 Ireland census shows the Parnell couple have moved to Gardiner St, and still have no children.[4] Wife Mary now reports she is Roman Catholic, and was born in county Galway. There is now reported to be 4 years difference in age, rather than the 2 years shown in 1901, so consider these approximate.

Mary died on the 2nd of September 1911 from pulmonary phthisis. Her address is listed as 7 lower Gardiner Street. [5]

Edward married Mary Grady on 8th July 1916. He was 47, and Mary was 27. 1916 was a turbulent time in Ireland, just after the Easter rebellion, and two years into the Great War. They had at least eight children. At the time of their marriage, Edward's address was 116 Phibsboro Road and Mary's was 190 Clonliffe Road. Mary Grady was from Cloonmeen, then in Co. Mayo (now in Co. Roscommon, after alteration to the county borders in 1898) They lived in North Great George's Street, in a tenement house.

Edward died on 23rd December 1929, at Baggot Street hospital, of cerebral embolism and cardiac failure. He was aged 60. his address at the time was 20 North Great Georges St. [6]

on 12th of April 1967 Mary died of bronchial pneumonia. [7] She was 77 and had lived at 17 Newcomen Court on the North Strand, Dublin.

Edward had lived all his life in the heart of Dublin city:
1898 - living at 89 Lower Gloster Street (Marriage cert 1)
1901 - living at 1 North Portland St. (1901 census, age 31)
1911 - living at 7.5 Lower Gardiner St. (1911 census, age 42)
1916 - living at 116 Phibsbobo' Road. (Marriage cert 2)
1929 - living at 26 Nth Gt Georges St (Birth cert; Dermot)
