Biography

Angele was born on September 1st 1812 in Quebec, Canada, the first of 15 children. She was the daughter of Etienne-Henri Parent and Marie-Angele Boisvert.[1][2][3]

In 1848, Angele married Thomas Parnell at St Frederic in Drummondville, Quebec, Canada.[4] An approximate translation:

  • On 24 Jan 1848, after the publication of 3 banns of marriage given on the days of our services in the parish, Thomas Parnell, farmer, son of age of Michael Parnell & Margaret Moore of Durham, on the one part, and Angèle Parent, daughter of age of Étienne Parent & Antoinette Boisvert also of Durham, on the other part, not having discovered any impediment to the marriage, we the undersigned priests having received the mutual consent of marriage, and we have given them the nuptial benediction in the presence of John Boyle and Mary Ann Doyle, sister of the (bride or groom?), which the contracting parties were not able to sign.

The couple had 3 children while living in Canada, then in about 1853, the family moved to western Wisconsin. They homesteaded land and settled where the Apple river meets the St Croix. The family added 4 more children while surviving a tough pioneer existence and harsh winters in a log cabin built by Thomas Parnell.

The 1860 US census finds the Parnell family farming near the small village of Somerset, Wisconsin.[5]

The 1870 US census shows Thomas & Angele have the full complement of 7 children in the house.[6] They are 21 year old William, Oliver-19, Frederick-17, Elizabeth-15, Lawrence-14, John-11, Mary-9.

The 1880 US census shows a smaller Parnell family in the house.[7] Besides Angele & Thomas, there are 2 sons left at home. Lawrence was 24, and getting ready to marry later that year. John was 21 and working on the farm with his father. Next door was 2nd oldest son Oliver and his young family. Fred was also nearby, and had married the previous year.

She passed away on June 16th 1895, and is buried at Saint Anne's Church Cemetery in Somerset, St. Croix cty, Wisconsin.[8][9]
