Biography
Frederick's exact date of birth is uncertain, but was probably 1831 or early 1832 (see Research Notes below). He was the son of William Parr and Elizabeth Weber, and was baptised on 22nd April 1832 at St Mary Magdalen's Church, Taunton, Somerset [1].
No 1841 census record can be found for Frederick Parr, however there is a "Francis Parr" recorded in North Street, Taunton along with the rest of the family. As there is no other reference to Francis it is suggested that this is an error in transcription by the census enumerator and the entry should refer to Frederick [2].
In 1851 he was employed as a groom at Whetleigh Lodge, Wilton, Taunton, Somerset. [3]
On 27th April 1852 he married Elizabeth Milton at St James Church, Taunton. [4]
In 1861, Frederick Parr (30, head, married, occupation groom, born in Taunton, Somerset) and his wife, Elizabeth (31, born in Wellington, Somerset) had five children: Anne (8, born in Bath, Somerset), Harriet (6, born in Bath, Somerset), Fanny (5, born in Clifton, Gloucestershire), Elizabeth (3, born in Clifton, Gloucestershire) and Frederick (1, born in Clifton, Gloucestershire). They were living in Clifton, Bristol. [5][6]
In 1871, Frederick Parr (age 41, married, occupation Fly Proprietor) and his wife, Elizabeth (41) had four children - Anne E (18), Elizabeth (12), Frederick (10) and Albert (5) living with them in Lower Nelson Mews, Clifton, Bristol. [7] A "fly" is a light horse-drawn public passenger vehicle or delivery wagon, or light, covered, vehicle hired from a livery stable such as a single-horse pleasure carriage or a hansom cab.
He passed away on 22 May 1873 [8]. From the subsequent 1881 Census return it appears that his widow took over the business following Frederick's death [9].
Research Notes
Frederick was baptised on 2nd April 1832, as baptism was usually 1 to 2 months after birth date of birth, from this he could have been born in early 1832. From census dates he could have been born as early as 1830. Honor-65 13:53, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
