Biography

JOHN PARRELL was born to Hugh Parrell and Ann Calvert. John Parrell was a minor at the time of his father's death in 1748, when a guardian was appointed. He and his four siblings were beneficiaries in the will.

John and brother Joseph voted for the young George Washington on July 24,1758. This would indicate that they were both of voting age of 21 by then, making their years of birth between 1727 and 1737.

George Washington was elected in 1758 to the Virginia House of Burgesses, the first democratically elected (by male landowners) legislative body of its kind in English North America. It is recorded that Washington's campaign was managed by Colonel James Wood who proccured 160 gallons of whiskey and distributed them free to 361 voters.

John married Elizabeth ? and they had 6 children: Edward, John Jr., William, Joseph, Ann (Beals) and Jane (Crampton) who pre-deceased John but left a daughter Jane who was mentioned in John’s will.

In 1773 John sold land in Frederick County and bought in Hampshire County, Virginia. This may be when he and his family moved.

John served as a captain in the Revolutionary War, according to a Minutes Book 1777-1791. He was given the Commission of Captain and his son-in-law Elisha Beals was mentioned.

John’s son Edward (1779-1826) married into a slave owning family- the Ashbrooks. He married Rachel Ashbrook, daughter of Levi Ashbrook. They had no children. Edward’s will of 1826 mentions the sale of enslaved people. (He is the only known Parrill to be a slave owner, as far as I can ascertain- M.Parrill).

After John Parrell returned to civilian life he was active buying and selling land. John is recorded in the Virginia Census of 1782. He is recorded as having no slaves in his household, as census recorded 8 white residents and 0 black residents. John Perrill is listed on the 1782 Hampshire County, Virginia Personal Property List as having 3 horses and 7 cattle. John Perrill was an executor of Rudy Bumgarner's will in 1808. Rudy was the father of John’s daughter-in-law Christian who married his son John Jr.

John passed away in 1811. John PERRELL will signed 8 May, 1809, probated 19 Aug. 1811

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Hugh Parrell’s will states: ‘if either of my sons Joseph and John should die before they come of Age that his land shall descend to the survivor equally divided between him and my son Edward…”.

Showing they were not yet of age to inherit at the time of their father’s death in 1748. Hugh was stating his intention for how his estate should be settled when his sons were old enough.

His father's will contradicts itself regarding John and Joseph not being of age. They both inherit land and are instructed to give inheritance to sister Christian when she comes of age. However, I will change birthdate to after 1727 and reconnect.

He needs to be disconnected from purported parents due to age difference. I will find correct ones after I correct Ann Calvert.

Parrill-24 and Parrell-7 appear to represent the same person because: John Parrill-24 and John Parrell-7 appear to be the same person. They share the same death date and residence. They also share the same spouse
