I would be glad to hear from ANYONE with an interest in the Parris family.... I may have useful information to share !
John Parris [email address removed]
The Parris family goes back to a leading Catholic family based at Hildersham (Catley Park) and Linton in Cambridgeshire.
When Henry VIII moved against Catholicism their fortunes declined and they lost most of the family lands.
Records are scarce between the time the family "dropped off the map", concealing their identity as Catholics. They were to be found in relatively remote places like the lost village of Pudding Norton in Norfolk (Pudding Norton Hall).
It seems the family split into different branches before re-appearing in the South West (Devon and Dorset, where they sold burgages) and in the South East / Thames Valley.
It is believed that the family held extensive lands in various parts of Britain, so it might have been relatively easy for them to "disappear" untilit was safe to return to public life as ordinary folk. THAT is part of the mystery.
My own line connects with Devon and Dorset and, over the years I have been in touch with various other members of the extended family, often people who are interested in unravelling the complex puzzle of our family.
I look forward to hearing from anyone who either has information on the Parris/Paris/Parys/Paries family tree or wouldlike to discover more.
Now that I am retired I finally have the time to work (with colleagues far more experienced than I am) to explore the complex history of our family line !
PLEASE GET IN TOUCH !!!
