A funeral for Andrew Vernon Parsons, a longtime resident of Gladstone, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Gladstone Baptist Church. Private entombment will be in Portland Memorial Mausoleum.

Mr. Parsons died of causes related to age Monday in a Portland care center. He was 97.

He was born Sept. 7, 1895, in Pennington Gap, Pa. As a child, he lived in St. Catherines, Ontario, and in Virginia. He later lived in Texas and Oskaloosa, Iowa,.

He married Nellie R. Bowen on Jan. 12, 1916, in Minot, N.D. She died in 1990.

Mr. Parsons managed a grocery store in Hurdsfield, N.D., and later worked in the grocery business in New Rockford, N.D. He was an automotive salesman in Fargo before moving to Oregon in 1959.

Mr. Parsons had lived in Gladstone for many years and was an active member of the First Baptist Church. He and his wife owned and operated the former Edison Hotel in downtown Portland during the 1950s.

Survivors include his daughters, June G. Bowen of Lincoln City, Peggy Olson of Wilmington, N.C., Virginia Craven of Bismarck, N.D., and Maridith Imhoff of Beaverton; sons, Richard of Lake Oswego and Russell of Albuquerque, N.M.; sisters, Margaret Drake of Augusta, N.J., and Ethyl, hometown unknown; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Winifred Knisley, died earlier.

The family suggests remembrances be contributions to the general fund of the First Baptist Church of Gladstone.
