John named only his sons John and Robert in his will of 1732. The names of his probable daughters are from his wife's will of 1742. Of these women, Hoff wrote that Sarah was his daughter: Sarah Parsons who was born Nov. 14, 1702, a daughter of John Parsons and his wife Mrs. Elizabeth (Carman) Forman (Cape May County Court recs.).[1]

Death and Legacy

John Parsons, Sr. of Cape May died in December 1732. He wrote his will 4 Dec 1732; inventory was dated 25 Dec 1732. Witnesses were William Mulford and Ebenezer Johnson. His wife and son John were named executors; Elizabeth Parsons finalized the will 3 Mar 1732/3 with fellow bondsman Joshua Stites (abt.1707-bef.1746); witnesses to administration were George Stites, Jacob Spicer Junior, and Jacob Spicer.[2]

Children named in will

  1. John Parsons
  2. Robert Parsons

Research Notes

In John Parsons, Sr.'s will dated 5 March 1685, he leaves land to "eldest son Samuel" and "to my son John Parsons, 9 acres land, and 6 acres land bounded by John Millers(?) Sand; and lot side of Enoch Fithian, also field of meadow bounded by Thomas Chatfield", and to son Robert Parsons. His wife is mentioned but unnamed and John Sr.'s brother Samuell Parsons is named guardian of "all my ch'n". The will was witnessed by Thomas Talmage and Robert Wyton(?). His will was proved 15 March 1685/6.[3]

This supports theory John Jr. is son of John Parsons Sr. (1632-16 Mar 1685) and Hester Shaw (1633-1682) (daughter of Edmund Shaw) of East Hampton. Note that there's a Wikitree profile for Edmund Shaw's daughter Esther but she has different dates/husband than "Hester". Sources--wills?
