Lived In MI until age 16, when her mother died around age 39, then fathers family purchased her a 1 way ticket to California. She lived on an Indian reservation for a short time. She wore braids or princess Laya buns in her hair often.
Helen was a wonderful artist and they often took trips to the woods so she could paint. she was a free spirit. When she was in California she bought a covered wagon. She took a gun, a friend, and a dog and came across the country to Michigan in it. She made the newspaper with that trip. she was very smart and got a great job at Michigan gas company. She left that job to get married and moved west.
She had self taught herself several languages and was a teacher for several years. She sewed her granddaughters many clothes, and crocheted them barbie furniture. She was excellent piano player and had electric organ in home. She taught some grandchildren how to play. She was very good at math too. She loved to garden had had dogs and cats. often when older, she would not vacation because she didn't want to leave her cats. Her and Eddie (2nd husband) traveled a lot.

June 1995 passed away in the home of daughter, Alice. with granddaughter, Alisa and daughter, Alice by her side
Had gotten pneumonia and was in hospital, one day coherent and knew everyone, that night she was wanting to walk around the hospital halls and nurses didn't want her to so they gave her some kind of medication and restrained her to bed. The next morning, she did not know any family and was confused. She was never the same again. She went from hospital to nursing home and then Alice moved her into her home. She was unable to care for self, was unable to even feed self. She passed away a few months later.
