Biography

1776 Project
Private Job Parsons Sr. served with 9th Massachusetts Regiment (1777), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

A Job Parsons, son of John, jr., was baptized at the First Parish Church, Gloucester on 29 Apr 1750. [1]

His parents were John Parsons and Anna Clarke. He married Betsey Dow * See Research Notes

Job served in the Revolutionary War as a private, enlisting in January 1777 in Captain Child's company, Colonel Wesson's regiment. Job was transferred to Colonel Michael Jackson's regiment and served to the end of the war. His heirs applied for a land grant. In the grant application papers is a letter from the Judge of Probate, Essex County Probate office dated 2 Feb 1819 which states "I Daniel A. White, judge of probate for said county, hereby certify, that Ebenezer Parsons, Edward Parsons, Moses Parsons, Anna Parsons and Elizabeth Parsons are the only children and heirs at law of Job Parsons, late of Gloucester in said county, deceased, who was a soldier in the revolutionary war with Great Britain, in colonel Wesson's regiment; as appears by the records in said office." The record also states there are no other Job Pearsons or Job Parsons in other Massachusetts Regiments. [2] The Job Parsons who settled in Dover, Piscataquis, Maine, therefore, could not have been his son and heir at law.
