Biography

Eliza (Parsons) Punchard was born in Sussex, England.

Eliza Parsons was born 16 Jul 1841 in Broadwater, Sussex, England to William Parsons and Sophia (Sharwell) Parsons. Her birth was registered in Worthing, Sussex in the third quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Sharwell.^[1] She was christened in Broadwater on 21 Nov 1841.^[2]

Eliza's mother Sophia Parsons passed away in 1847.

In 1851 Eliza Parsons (age 10, Scholar) lived at Whitecross Street in Brighton, Sussex with her father William (46, Carpenter) and five siblings: Caroline (19), Mary Ann (17, Servant), William (15, Apprentice to a Carpenter), Emma (12, Servant), and George (7, Scholar).^[3]

Eliza Parsons (age 23, daughter of William Parsons) married Alfred Punchard (age 21, son of Jeremiah Punchard) on 7 May 1865 at Saint Nicholas in Brighton.^[4][5] The marriage was registered in Brighton in the second quarter of the year.^[6]

Eliza and Alfred had seven children: George Punchard (1865-1877), Alfred Herbert Punchard (1866-1886), William Henry Punchard (1868-1877), Frederick Punchard (1870-1945), Alice Punchard (1871-1886), Charles Punchard (1873-1873), and Harry Punchard (1874-1876).

In 1871 Eliza Punchard (age 29, Flyman's Wife) lived in Brighton with her husband Alfred (26, Flyman) and four sons: George (5), Alfred (4), William (2), and Frederick (0).^[7]

Eliza Punchard passed away in 1874, aged 33 years. Her death was registered in Brighton in the last quarter of the year.^[8]

Research Notes

Eliza was previously connected as the daughter of William Parsons (1820-1897). However, that William was not her father - he was born in Itchingfield, Sussex in 1820, whereas Eliza's father was born in Broadwater, Sussex c1805-09. The other William Parsons married Maria Greenfield in 1852, while Eliza's father married first Sophia Sharwell in 1831, and then Ann Parsons in 1855.
