Biography

John Thomas Partridge, the seventh child of John Partridge & Charlotte (Rose) Partridge, was born on 16 Apr 1852 at Church Terrace, Grantham, Lincolnshire.[1][2] John was later baptised at St. Wulfrum Church.[3]

At age 18, John was working as a printer, and living with his widowed father at 40 Swinegate in Grantham[4].

Sometime later he moved to Horncastle, Lincolnshire and worked as a compositor in a print works. When aged 25, on 12 May 1878 at St Mary's Parish Church in Horncastle[5], he married 21-year old Fanny Lingard, the daughter of a cordwainer.

The couple moved south to London, where John initially worked as a printer compositor, and later as a joiner. They took lodgings at 11a Chapel Terrace, Battersea, just across the street from Fanny's married sister Martha (Lingard) Bird. On 20 Apr 1880 they had their first and only son John Frederick Partridge.[6][7]

Unfortunately at the young age of 25, John died of consumption in hospital in Kensington, on 25 Mar 1881[8] [9] leaving Fanny as a widow with baby child[10]. He was buried on 29 Mar 1881 at St. Mary's, Battersea, London.[11]

Unfortunately, within three months of his death, his baby son John Frederick Partridge also died. His wife Fanny moved northwards, remarried and had three children.
