Biography

Daniel was born in 1836 in Montgomery County, Alabama. He was the son of Daniel Partridge (1801-1863) and Martha Jane Steele (1806-1883).

On April 24, 1861, he enlisted as a Seargent in Company B, 3rd Regiment, Alabama Infantry. On May 1, 1862, he was promoted to 1st lieutenant[1]. In 1864 he was recommended for Captain[2].

He was present at the following camps: New Grace Church, VA in Dec 1862[3]; New Market, VA Oct 30, 1864[4]; Sutherland Depot Feb 26, 1865[5].

In Sept 1862 he was in the Infirmary of St. Francis de Sales in Richmond, VA[6]. He returned to duty on Oct 11, 1862[7].

He was wounded in the head during the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1, 1863[8].

He shows being paroled at the surrender in Appomattox in April 1865[9].

On paperwork when he was recommended for Captain, it laid out his military service[10]:

April 29-May 6, 1863, Lt mentioned as Brigade Inspector by Col. E.A. O'Neal, comdg. Rodes' Brigade , D. H. Hill's Div., 2d Corps, A. N. Va. (Vol 25-1, p. 953)
Aug 3, 1863. Lt., 3d Ala., mentioned as Inspector or Rodes' Brigade. (Personal Papers, W. H. Dwight.)
Jan & Feb 1864. Rolls for 3d Ala. show him Lt., detached as A & I. G. for Brigade
Sept & Oct 1864 and Jan - Jun 1864. Rolls show him detached Brigade Ordnance Officer.
Apr 4 1864 to Apr 9 1865 (not fully legible)
April 9, 1865. Paroled as 1st Lt., Co. B, 3d Regt., and Actg. Ordnance Officer, Battle's Brigade, A. N. Va.

After the war he returned home to Mobile, Alabama. On 6 May 1872, in Claiborne, Mississippi, he married Lucy Ann Harris. They settled in Selma, Alabama where they had 6 known children. She passed away on 1884. He married again, on 18 April 1888 at Spring Hill, Mobile, Alabama, to Ellen Lee Field. They had one child.

While living in Choctaw County, Alabama, he passed away in 1863. He was buried at the Magnolia Cemetery.
