Pamelia was born on 19 Oct 1818 at Stonehouse Point, Ontario (now Glen Walter), and baptized on the same day at St-Régis (Akwesasne) as “Pélagie Paré”.[1]
She married Charles Derosia in 1835, and settled in Massena, New York. In the United States she anglicized her name to “Pamelia Perry”, and was sometimes referred to as “Permelia”, “Polly” or “Emily” in records.
The 1840 census lists the household of Charles Derosha (1 male aged 30-39, 1 female aged 20-29, 2 males under 5) living in Massena, next to Stephen Derosha (1 male aged 70-79, 1 female aged 60-69)
In 1850, Charles DeRosier (farmer, b. NY), ‘Polly’ (b. Canada), Charles, Alexander, Adaline, Amelia, and Mary lived in Massena. Margaret was listed next door with the family of Louis (bc 1821 NY) and Rosa (bc 1818 NY) Fouger.
In 1860, Charles De Rosier (farmer, b. NY), ‘Emma’ (b. Canada), Charles, Alexander, Margaret, Adeline, Emily, Mary, Joseph, Louis, Franklin, and Julia lived in Massena. Charles and Emma could not read or write
In 1870 Charles, Pamelia, Mary, Louis, Franklin and Julia lived in Massena. In 1880, Charles (farmer, b. NY), ‘Emily’, Franklin, and Julia lived in Massena.
She died in 1902. Her obituary was published in page 5 of the February 27, 1902 Massena Observer: Mrs Pamelia Perry Derosia, of this town, died at the home of her son, Frank Derosia, last Sunday morning at nine o’clock, after a week’s illness. Mrs. Derosia was born at what is known as Stone House Point, in Canada, October 19, 1818. In 1835 at the age of seventeen she married Charles Derosia, and they settled on the farm in the extreme eastern end of the town of Massena, where they always resided with exception of two years, until the death of her husband. She was the mother of ten children, nine of whom survive, five sons and four daughters, Charles of Racket River; Alexander, of Ogdensburg; Joseph of Bay City, Mich.; and Louis S and Frank of Massena. The daughters are Mrs. Isaac Larue, of Alexandria, Ont; Mrs Benjamin Dishaw, of Chase Mills; Mrs. Charles Grow, of Hogansburg, and Mrs. Louis Larue, of Massena. The funeral was held on Tuesday from St. Patrick’s church at Hogansburg, and the remains interred beside those of her husband in the family plot at Hogansburg cemetery.[2]
Another obituary was published in the Malone Palladium (on Pamelia’s Find a Grave page): The funeral of Mrs. Charles Derosia was held last week Tuesday at St. Patrick's church. She lived in this parish for a great many years, but died at her eldest son's, Charles Derosia, at Racket Bridge. Mrs, Derosia was 83 years old. She was a very kind and good Christian woman, and was beloved by her children. Her husband died 21 years ago. She leaves five sons and four daughters. Seven were present at her death. She also leaves 62 grandchiidren and 59 great grandchildren. The pall bearers were her five sons, Charles Derosia, of Racket Bridge, Alexander, of Ogdensburg, Lewis and. Frank, of Massena, Benjamin, of Chases Mills, and one son-in-law, Lewis Larue, of Helena. The undertaker who had charge of the funeral was another son-in-law, C. J. Grow, of this village
Charles and Pamelia are buried in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Hogansburg.[3]
