Nathaniel Pass Sr. participated in the American Revolution

Moved into Caswell Co., NC about 1780. Enlisted with NC Moore's Regiment along with son Holloway Pass. Declaration for pension mentions "younger brother Thomas Pass of Georgia."

Nathaniel Pass Sr. was born about 1735 in VA. He died in 1815 in NC, Caswell Co., near Milton. On 20 Dec 1779, Nathaniel was given a land grant of 430 acres in Caswell County, NC "on the waters of Smiths Mill Creek". It is not known why the land grant was given to a citizen of Virginia. It was not for Nathaniel's Revolutionary War service which did not begin until a year later. Most probably it was for some service in the Indian skirmishes which took place around the middle of the 18th century and which kept the settlers scurrying back and forth across the Virginia-North Carolina border. [1]

After the war, he returned to Caswell County. Nathaniel died in 1815 at age 81. His will is recorded in Caswell County, NC (Book of Wills "G", page 131). In his will, Nathaniel Pass lists: wife Ulsey (Alsey) Pass, sons: Nathaniel Pass, John Pass, Holloway Pass (eldest son), Thomas Pass, daughters: Sally Moore, Jeminah Williams. Mary Phelps, Ellis Taylor, Rebekah Burton, Fanny Taylor, grandsons: William Moore son of Sally Moore, John Felps son of Mary Phelps, Thomas Taylor son of Ellis Taylor, Henry Taylor son of Fanny Taylor,Granddaughters: Patsy Pass Williams, Fanny Ellis Gann, Nancy Burton .

"Joseph Benjamin Merritt's composition notebook states: "Nathaniel Pass died January 1st 1816 aged 85 years. His wife Ailsey McGinnis Pass died Aug 1815 aged 75 years". Joseph was a grandson of Alsey & Nathaniel Pass." Sandra Vines

Pass-210 and Pass-56 are not ready to be merged because: a lot of text cleanup between the two is needed; also will affect wife as her name is recorded both as McGinnis and Holloway in differing locations.
