Biography

From The Story of a Thousand

Edward Patchin was born in Newbury, Geauga Co., O., March 6, 1840. His boyhood was spent on a farm with the usual district school education. He enlisted as a private in the 19th O.V.I., April 14th, 1861, and served in the W. Va. campaign until the close of his three months' service; enlisted as a private in Co. E, 105th, Aug. 8, 1862; was appointed 4th sergeant, and was drill master of the company until the battle of Perryville, where he received a musket ball through the left elbow which permanently disabled him causing his discharge from the service Dec. 29, 1862. He was elected County Treasurer of Geauga County in 1866; after expiration of the term of office, he engaged in the insurance business. For the past 12 years he has been State agent of the Concordia Fire Ins. Co., and now has charge of the company's business in Ohio, traveling over the whole state appointing agents and adjusting losses. His home is in Chardon, O. [1]
