William Pate was born in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.
William John Elphick Pate was born in 1852 in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire[1], and baptised there on 4 May 1853[2]. His parents were Ellen Pate, née Smith, and Gibbs Pate, a grocer.
William became a baker and moved to Croydon, Surrey[6]. He married Clara Elizabeth Turner in 1879 at Hackney, London[4], and the couple had at least one child, William[5].
William was living back in Cambridge when he died there in Addenbrooke's Hospital on 21 December 1899[9][10].
