Dorothy L. [Pate] Kalb, 86, of 521 W. Matthews Court, Oneida, [Illinois], died at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City, Iowa.

She was born May 5, 1915, in Beardstown, [Illinois] the daughter of Fred Walter and Rosa A. Schmidt Pate. She married Robert L. Kalb on Sept. 9, 1947, in Macomb. He died Feb. 3, 1966. She was preceded in death by a son, Steven Paul Kalb, three sisters and a brother.

Surviving are one son, Mike (Celia) Kalb, Oneida, [Illinois]; one sister, Alberta Cochran, Rushville, [Illinois]; two brothers, Gerald Pate, Versailles, [Illinois], and Freddie Pate, Quincy, [Illinois]; three grandchildren, one stepgrandchild, four great-grandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild.

She worked in the office at Blue Bell Manufacturing in Abingdon and later farmed with her husband east of Oneida. After Robert's death, she worked at Gross Galesburg and Pioneer Seed Company in Woodhull. She was a member of United Methodist Church and its Methodist Women's groups, Oneida Senior Citizens, Oneida Women's Club, and was a past board member of Kalb Corporation in Oneida.

Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Abingdon Cemetery, with the Rev. Carolyn Weber officiating. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Oneida was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Fund in memory of Robert L. Kalb.
