Biography

Andrew Arnold Paterson is born on November 14, 1915 in Ontario, the son of Malcolm McGillivray Paterson (1875-1950) and Annie Cathetta Wright (1883-1941) [1][xx]. His parents lived on a farm in Scarborough Township (now the city of Toronto). However, at some point, they move to a new farm in Markham Township. Markham is on the north side of Scarborough. We don’t know in which township Andrew is born. He can be found, at the age of five, in the 1921 census records [2]. The family is now in Markham.

Andrew marries Grace Madeline Cain (1911-2011) – no marriage record has been found. They have four children:

• Murray Arnold Paterson 1936-1991 + Lois Mary Graves 1939-1997

• Marilyn Grace Paterson 1938-2013 + John George Dawson ?-?

• Carol Paterson ?-? George Anderson ?-?

• Audrey P. Paterson 1944-1994 + William (Billy) G. Holden 1943-2001

Nothing much else is known about the life of Andrew and Grace. We think Andrew went through life using “Arnold” as his name. We know that, in 1957, he and Grace are still living in Markham [3]. He dies on March 3, 1970 and is buried in the Saint Andrew Presbyterian Cemetery in Markham [4]. Grace lives on to almost make her 101st birthday. She is buried in Arnold.
