Ruth (Patrick) Van Dusen is Notable.
Ruth (Patrick) Van Dusen was a centenarian, living to age 105.
American botanist and limnologist specializing in diatoms and freshwater ecology. She developed ways to measure the health of freshwater ecosystems and established numerous research facilities.
Born in Topeka, Kansas but grew up in Kansas City, specifically Jackson Co, Missouri. Her parents were Frank Patrick and Myrtle Jetmore. She graduated from Coker College in Hartsville, South Carolina with her Bachelor's in biology in 1929. She completed her master's and doctorate degrees in botany at the University of Virginia in 1931 and 1934. She was married twice, but retained her maiden name in publications.
She was awarded the Benjamin Franklin medal by the American Philosophical Society in 1993 [1]. She was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in 2009 [2]
