Research Notes
excerpt from "Records of Augusta County, Va 1745-1800 Chalkey 1965" - VOL. III, page 91 and page 178. [3]
"...19th April 1755, Mathew Erwin’s will:
to wife, Elizabeth;
to daughter, Gennet Erwin, alias Johnson;
to daughter Jean Erwin, alias Jamison;
to daughter Agnes;
to daughter Mary Erwin, alias Francis;
to daughter Ellinor Erwin, alias Patterson;
to daughter, Elizabeth Erwin;
to daughter Ann Erwin, alias Anderson.
Executrix, wife ELIZABETH. John Francis to be overseer. Teste: James Bell, Alex. Blair, Edward Warner. Proved, 18th August, 1762, by Bell and Warner. ELIZABETH refuses to execute. Administration granted John Francis, who qualifies, with James Bell, William Frame."
There is no explanation why any other daughters would be left out of the will as both single and married are included: Gennett, Jean, Agnes, Mary, Eleanor, Elizabeth and Ann are all named as is wife, Elizabeth.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Elizabeth by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Elizabeth:
I see the merge was rejected again but wanted to point out the birth/ baptismal source for Elizabeth Irvine / Erwin from 1682 listing father Abraham Paterson and mother Elizabeth. So now it seems our Elizabeth's are connected to the same father and husband and using the same Findagrave as my "Suggestions" list keeps informing me. If there is anything we can do to work together and confirm or split sources please let me know. I've now had the profile long enough where I should've double checked the previously attached children and am about to go through all of them with and without records. Thanks Again! Becky
The findagrave site listed gives a birth date of March 19, 1682 in Aberdeenshire and also lists a marriage date of Sept. 23, 1707 between she and Matthew Sr- I don't know the source for the marriage yet but apparently a d.o.b. but not a d.o.d. was listed on a gravemarker. I've got notes to research further but wanted to share in case you found it as well and wanted to add to the profile. Cheers! Becks
Patterson-3837 and Patterson-1063 do not represent the same person because: This is nearly the same reason for not merging the spouse but it is simply not making sense to have so much mismatched information. I tried to point this out but as I see the merge was partially approved, I asked and was overwhelming told it is better to wait for evidence.
I have had some of these Ancestors in my family tree but only recently adopted this profile and don't want to rush things.
To begin, the parents of the Husband are different and neither profile has any proof. Also, the children listed are completely different with a will given on one that doesn't list one name from the other profiles list of children.
Next when looking at the son Mathew, of Mathew &Elizabeth Irvine he has a similar date of death as the proposed Erwin and he was born 10 years before the parents were married- aka- not possible. This was true of one of the daughters as well but I didn't write it down and apologize. The same will is used for the son of Mathew Irvine as is used to support the profile of Mathew Erwin (and both have Elizabeth's as wives) so there is way more inconclusive or opposing evidence than supportive proof. I am open to merging all if there are sources found and I promise to continue researching as well.
I adopted this profile not long ago and haven't finished sourcing but one thing that immediately jumps at me is that both women have a list of children and neither have any names in common. I have a proposed merge in progress with another profile that should be at its 30 days if the other manager hasn't responded , so I will look more at it tonight- Thanks for bringing this up as we may have a situation where one of the women is incorrectly named because of the husband being a Sr/Jr and the birthdate given is about a generation apart according to what has been written thus far in the profiles. The one I adopted, this one, needs some serious work as I see the same Findagrave reference used and not much else.
I removed the Scottish Clans project box, since the project was not added as a PM. If you want it back, please ask the project to add themselves to this profile. see Data Doctos 931 error.
different spellings were quite common in the 17th and 18th centuries. The husbands and both isabellas have identical birth dates. There are no dates for most of these children and we don't know which country the mother was born in as it lists 2.
Patterson-3837 and Patterson-1063 do not represent the same person because: Different children; born in different centuries; different spellings of husbands' last names.
Patterson-3837 and Patterson-1063 appear to represent the same person because: duplicate persons, the husband's name varies but he is the same person from American history.
