William was born in 1848. He was the son of David Patterson and Thirza Rex. He passed away in 1848.

BIRTHS. - SMH Wednesday 15th March 1848. ^[1] On Monday, the 13th instant, Mrs. Patterson, of Sydney College, of a son.

From 1847-1849 David Patterson was Headmaster of Sydney College which closed in 1850 after David became insolvent. It later re-opened as part of Sydney Uni and then became Sydney Grammar School and remains on the same campus in College St next to the Australian Museum. Thirza Patterson cared for the students who boarded at the college.
