From birth, lived in Luton, Beds, UK. Aged 5 to 11 pupil at Denbigh Rd Primary and Junior School, and much influenced by unrelated "uncles" and "aunts" like the Girbow family. From age 11 at Luton Grammar School until 1957 where, among many others, I was taught by the historian and botanist Dr John Dony. Lived in Leeds at Adel (University of Leeds Sadler Hall) and in Victoria Road for 7 yrs as degree and then postgraduate student. Married Eileen Burrage in 1962 at Garton on the Wolds, Yorks, UK. Lived in Hewitts Lane, Wymondham, Norfolk, UK 1964 - 68, while a postdoc at University of East Anglia, Norwich. Sailed to Australia In 1968 on the later ill-fated Achille Lauro[1]. Lived in Point Rd, Lane Cove, NSW, Australia and nearby 1968 - 1971, while working in the Plant Physiology Unit, CSIRO Division of Food Preservation. Moved to UK at Ditton, Kent, 1971 - 1974, working at East Malling Research Station. Moved to Avian Crescent, Lane Cove, NSW, Australia 1975 - 1990, working successively in CSIRO Divisions of Food Research, Horticulture, and Plant Industry, followed by University of Newcastle 1990-92. After retiring, active in regenerating Ourimbah Creek ecosystems with Eileen (Burrage) Patterson[2] [3]

Thanks for your message regarding the proposed merge of Bottomley-501 and Bottomley-67. As I'm not a manager, or on the Trusted List, for either profile I can't approve the Merge - you need to contact the manager of the other profile to check sources and details, and both of you need to approve the Merge.
As an outside observer, it seems fairly obvious to me that the two profiles represent the same person, which is why I proposed the merge. If you are already happy that they are the same person, then just go ahead and approve the Merge - it will then be up to the manager of the other profile to complete the Merge.
