William was born in 1726 in Ireland. He came to Waynesboro, VA in 1749 with his father Robert Patterson, whose ancestors were survivors of the Siege of Dublin.
He married Agness Henderson and they had a son John.
William passed away in 1826 at age 100 and was buried in the Old (Methodist) City Cemetery, Lynchburg, VA. [1]
William’s great grandson, James Givens Patterson (KNSG-FNZ), related family lore and shared family records with his nephew, Rev. Brown Craig Patterson, about 1901. Brown shared his notes with Daley Craig in 1950. In 1989 Brown’s nephew John L. Patterson incorporated his uncle’s research into Descendants of William Patterson, Who Settled on South River in Augusta County, Virginia, about 1740.
Patterson vs. Wilson in Augusta Suit Records - "In 1748 William Patterson was a resident of Derry Twnshp in Lancaster Co., PA. In 1749 he removed to Augusta County, VA."
