John Pattison VC is Notable.

John George Pattison VC (8 September 1875 – 3 June 1917) was a Canadian soldier. Pattison was a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for valour in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. His military record states he was awarded the VC [wording slightly different from when gazetted],

For conspicuous bravery. When an enemy machine gun was holding up the advance of our men he rushed forward, jumping from shell hole to shell hole to within thirty yards of the gun where he succeeded in killing or wounding some of the gun crew with a bomb. He then charged the emplacement and bayonetted the remainder. It was an outstanding act of valor and undoubtedly was responsible for the success of the operation."

Pattison was born in London, England and emigrated to Canada. He and his family (wife and four children) settled in Calgary where he found a job with the Calgary Gas Company. He enlisted for service in WWI on 6 March 1916, supposedly to protect his son who enlisted a few months earlier (Wikipedia).

He was killed in fighting during the Battle of Vimy Ridge the same year he won the VC. Husband of Sophie Louise Pattison of Calgary. At the 1911 census their household was as follows:
