Biography

Although some researchers believe George to be a son of Robert Paul (1665-1746), the evidence strongly suggests Robert was in fact his father-in-law, and that George's wife Elizabeth was Robert's daughter. See Robert's profile for discussion of this.

The list of Jeffery Paul's beneficiaries includes "Georg Paull" and a daughter of his ("Sary" - possibly singled out for being a child of his first marriage) and two of Jeffery and Phylis' other children were buried in Mancetter the same year George was married there. The lack of a baptism record for George may be accounted for by the slapdash nature of the registers and the poor legibility in places on the scans available.

George was "of Atherstone" both at the time of his marriage in 1739 and at the time of Robert Paul's will in 1746.

George's own will dated 4th May 1778 was written shortly after wife Elizabeth's death and he names his surviving chidren as Robert Paul, George Paul, Elizabeth Hefford and Ann Higginson.

George was buried on 3rd January 1781 in Bedworth, Warwickshire, where daughter Ann lived, the burial register records him as "George Paull, widower from Hinckley"
